Background

Citibank is the consumer and corporate banking arm of Citigroup, the largest financial services company of its kind in the world. With operations in more than 40 countries, Citibank has over 1,400 offices—more than half of which are in the US. Citibank offers consumers and small businesses a full scope of banking services including deposits and loans, while also utilizing its parent's breadth of financial services by providing a competitive range of insurance and investment products.

Challenge

Citibank leads the field in online banking services, claiming upward of 15 million users. Therefore, it came as no surprise that the website solutions group at Citicards recognized the need to streamline their Spanish localization initiative.

  • With the need to translate over 600,000 words of branded content, Citigroup set aggressive deadlines in an effort to localize this material within a very tight turn-around time.
  • Speedy delivery had to coincide with a workflow that incorporated legal review.
  • Content was housed in .jsp files, which required flawless QA in order to dynamically generate customer-facing web pages.

Solution

As a leader in technology solutions, Translations.com worked with Citibank to create a customized localization effort.

  • Translations.com worked with Citibank to adapt and standardize extensive online glossaries in all languages. This glossary was formed to ensure consistency over time and across projects.
  • Translators were selected to adapt the content, and coordinated to work exclusively within the same teams to further ensure consistency.
  • A three-stage language review was created to certify integrity of content and adaptation.
  • Deliverable schedules were not compromised through the separation of technical and localization components of each project, allowing independent linguistic tasks to be completed without disturbing data reliability in other facets.
