AES
One of the world’s largest power companies, AES owns and operates a diverse and growing portfolio of generation and distribution businesses with the capacity to serve 100 million people across the globe. Working around the clock to meet a rush deadline, our worldwide production staff seamlessly collaborated to translate nine PowerPoint presentations into four languages. In addition, TransPerfect provided simultaneous and consecutive interpreters and all necessary equipment for a four-day company meeting at which five languages were represented.
Information Center for Petroleum Exploration and Production
Since Japan has few domestic natural resources, the country depends on imports for all of its oil, gas, metals, and minerals. The Information Center for Petroleum Exploration and Production (ICEP) was created to collect, analyze, and provide information as well as to conduct research and surveys on oil and gas exploration and production in other countries. ICEP obtained a series of highly technical geological surveys and reports for a potential Russian oilfield. So that the Center’s Geological Evaluation Group could assess the potential of the field, TransPerfect was tasked with producing English versions of this documentation-a project that involved the translation of over half a million words in just six weeks.
To handle the highly technical nature of the material, we brought together linguists with degrees in geology. Headed by a translator who held a PhD in geology with a focus on oil and gas exploration, the team was able to identify the most relevant information for translation and create a glossary of highly technical key terms to help maintain consistency throughout the seven English volumes of reports and surveys. In order to maintain ICEP's research schedule, a delivery calendar was established for providing the Evaluation Group with the translated material on a rolling basis. With the help of TransPerfect, the group was able to conduct research and evaluate the subject areas and geological elements outlined in the translated surveys and reports in order to select new prospective areas for future exploration.
BP
As a major energy supplier, BP has a responsibility to provide clear reports on all aspects of its business. One of the most significant and highly anticipated of these publications is the widely distributed Sustainability Report. With a target audience including government and industry professionals all over the world, this Report had to be made available in German, Spanish, and Russian. TransPerfect assembled an expert project management team that was familiar with this type of assignment. In collaboration with technically trained linguists with subject-matter expertise, the team was able to promptly deliver the three translated, edited, and proofread versions-all of which met the high standards for quality that BP had set. After the client’s in-country reviewers approved the language, the document was typeset and proofread once more prior to going to print. The end result was the publication of a multilingual, 60-page Sustainability Report that has won international acclaim and several prestigious awards around the world.
